The appointment took place in the famous Italian wine region of Monferrato in Piemonte, an area full of hills and picturesque villages.<\/p>\n<p>The fast circuit, starting and finishing in the town of Quattordio, meandered through all the small towns and cities north of Alessandria to Asti for 125 km, completing a 1,750-metre climb full of curves and country roads. Despite not starting in the leading group, Sergio Mantec\u00f3n quickly managed to climb positions to place himself in the leading group from the first kilometers. He would remain in that peloton throughout the race, leading the group on numerous occasions.
