Last Sunday the Spanish Marathon Championships were held in Lalín, Galicia. A very long and demanding course was going to be the challenge to become champions of Spain. Joana, Victor and Dani, who arrived in a great shape, took the start with the idea of getting into the top 10 of their respective categories, except Joana, who, seeing her performance and victories in all the races of the Spanish Cup disputed this year, had great chances to wear the champion’s jersey.
During the course of the race, when Joana had already passed more than half of the course and was well ahead of the second classified, a blow in the gearbox made it impossible for her to continue and she had to abandon, thus losing the option of being champion of Spain.
On the men’s side, Dani had a spectacular race and got into the top 10 of the U-23 category, demonstrating the great quality he has. On the other hand, Victor tried to help Joana to continue, but it was impossible and finally abandoned with her.
This outcome of the first part of the season leaves us with a bittersweet taste, since we were nothing away from being champions of Spain in our first year as a team. Despite the adversities, the boys will continue fighting to achieve as much success as possible.
