Costanza Fasoli’s victory in La Chupacabras 100 km
Costanza Fasoli won the La Chupacabras 100 km, one of Mexico’s most important competitions, attracting more than 5,000 participants and linked to a renowned local fair. Each year, the organizers invite European athletes to participate, and the event maintains a special connection with Italy, a country from which numerous runners have come over the years.
The route of this iconic race is very unique: 100 kilometers with 1,500 meters of elevation gain. However, this number should not be misleading, as it is a demanding and technical event. The first 20 kilometers feature a slight climb before entering the Sierra de Juárez, where participants travel nearly 60 kilometers of trails created by locals through the desert.
According to Fasoli, the race was reminiscent of the Cape Epic at times, although the terrain was even more difficult to navigate: “It was a rocky, dry, and slippery course, with the wind always present. If you fell, there was a risk of ending up among the cacti,” the athlete humorously commented.
After completing the desert loop, the course returned to the city along the same route as the outward journey.
Fasoli described the experience as one of the toughest of her athletic career. She took the lead in the early uphill sections and managed to increase her advantage on the technical trails. “It was a race that taught me a lot from a technical standpoint. We’re not used to this type of terrain, which requires great concentration to avoid falls,” she added.
The team expressed its satisfaction with this important result, which represents another step in Costanza Fasoli’s athletic and personal growth.
The team is already preparing for the finale of this great season: a country, a competition, and an organization that always delights. Everything is ready for our fourth participation in the Brasil Ride.
