INDONESIAN ROUND CHRONICLE PUCCETTI RACING

The Kawaski Puccetti Racing team achieved a fantastic result in Mandalika.

After Lucas Mahias’ crash in SBK he was unable to contest the superpole or the race due to a sprained ankle. We had to enjoy the SSP World Championship with Can Oncü and Yari Montella.

The Mandalika circuit seemed ideal for the ISB Sport ambassadors in the small category of Superbikes to achieve a great result. Oncü got a very good second position in the superpole that allowed him to be in the fight for victory in the races of the weekend. On the other hand, Montella also signed a good performance getting the sixth position.

In the first race Oncü was in the front group fighting for the first places, eight laps from the end Caricasulo began to lose steam with Tuuli and Oncü, who were left alone in the lead. Shortly after, a mistake by the Finn allowed the Turk to command the race but a couple of laps later it was Oncü who was very long and lost a couple of seconds, leaving Tuuli with more than a second of rent in the lead. The Kawaski Puccetti Racing rider had the podium assured but had no chance of reaching the first place as the MV Agusta Reparto Corse rider maintained his fast pace until the end and saw the checkered flag with a margin of 3.5 seconds over Caricasulo, who has snatched the second position from Oncü after a new error of the Turk. Montella also achieved a good result finishing the race in fifth position.

In the second race the ambassadors of ISB Sport staged a heart attack exit in which a few corners Oncü took the lead while Montella gained positions to get third behind Caricasulo. Throughout the race the Puccetti Racing drivers lost a couple of positions each until Tuuli risked too much and fell 7 laps from the end, a lap later the red flag appeared when the pilots were practically arriving at the crash site where the Finn’s MV Agusta was still lying on track. That delay in waving the flag allowed to fulfill the two-thirds of the race and, therefore, to end it with the victory of Dominique Aegerter, third position again for Oncü and fifth for Montella.

It’s been a great race weekend and we’re looking forward to the last race of the championship in Australia.
