Matteo Vannucci impresses in Catalonia

ISB Sport ambassador Matteo Vannucci takes second place at the Circuit de Catalunya in the Supersport 300 category.

After his brilliant performance in Assen, the Italian rider was determined to at least repeat the result obtained at the circuit of the Netherlands. The ISB Sport rider started plugged in from FP1 and already showed good pace and speed by setting the second fastest time of the session (1’56.713) only behind his compatriot Samuel Di Sora. In FP2 the Italian continued to demonstrate his form and fought every lap with Pérez González for first place. Finally the AG Motorsport Italia Yamaha rider got another second to 0.394 seconds of the Spanish rider.

In the Superpole the drivers were met with a red flag for irresponsible driving by all the racers. Once the competition was relaunched, Vannucci had a fall with Pérez González with whom he was fighting at turn 5. This qualified him seventh for the races although in race 1 he would start sixth due to the penalty imposed on Maier for slow driving in FP1.

In race 1, Vannucci would cross the finish line eighth. The second race was more exciting for our driver. After fighting in the leading group throughout the race, the last lap came full of overtaking and excitement, the three drivers who led the test entered parallel to turn 10, nobody was going to give anything away. Gennai and Vanucci took the penultimate corner paired just before the race was decided at the same finish line with Vannucci in second position by 0.027 seconds apart.

Gennai’s victory and Vanucci’s second place mean Italy’s first WorldSSP300 one-two. Vanucci has five podiums in the category and the ISB Sport ambassador of the AG Motorsport Yamaha team continues to give us emotions and joys in every race he contests.
