SCOTT Cala Bandida secured one of the most significant victories of the season this weekend by winning the Vuelta a Ibiza MTB with the duo of Barroso and Morcillo. In the opening stage, Barroso and Morcillo capitalised on a mechanical problem suffered by their main rivals to launch the decisive attack and claim victory, on a 76-kilometre stage with 1,700 metres of climbing that made it clear they were going to fight for everything.
The second stage, considered the queen stage, sealed the overall victory. Over a 86.6-kilometre route featuring numerous technical sections, the SCOTT Cala Bandida duo once again proved themselves the strongest, extending their lead in the standings thanks to another stage win.
On the final day, starting and finishing in Sant Antoni, their direct rivals went all out and managed to take the stage by just a few seconds, but Barroso and Morcillo knew how to manage their accumulated lead to secure the overall victory with authority.
The victory holds special significance for Enrique Morcillo, who has secured his third home win and cemented his place as one of the race’s all-time greats. For Alberto Barroso, too, it marks a victory in the Vuelta a Ibiza on his debut, confirming his remarkable progress in XCM.
This year, the Vuelta a Ibiza celebrated its 25th anniversary with a top-class field, bringing together figures such as Alejandro Valverde, Alberto Contador, Joaquim Rodríguez and José Antonio Hermida, as well as some of the best international mountain bike stage race specialists.
With this victory, SCOTT Cala Bandida continues to establish itself as one of the leading teams on the national and international bike marathon scene, using ISB Sport bicycle bearings.
