10 Oct Scott Cala Bandida 1st Gravel Championship
José María Sánchez and Sergio Mantecón, Scott Cala Bandida team riders and ISB Sport ambassadors, participated in the first Gravel World Championship.
Yesterday, October 9th, the first UCI World Championships Gravel edition was held in the Veneto region of Italy. A terrain mainly composed of white gravel, typical of the Italian region, also had cobbled sections and asphalt roads in a route of 190 km and with a positive difference in altitude of 800m. A race in which 556 elite and amateur riders from different cycling disciplines were registered.
Jose Marí, the Scott Cala Bandida team rider and ISB Sport ambassador managed to stay among the best of the race until kilometre 140 where his strength began to fail and he could not keep up the pace of a tough race, with very long sprints, due to very narrow sections that made the runners had to look for gaps and be fast to fight for the position. Even so, José Marí managed to finish the race in just over 5 and a half hours.
Sergio, the other Scott Cala Bandida team rider and ISB Sport ambassador, on the other hand, had to pull out the race at kilometre 15 due to a breakdown after a mishap with another runner in the leading group.

More and better gravel next year!
