04 Apr Triumph of the Spanish national team in the European Cup
The XVIII edition of the International Trophy “Villa de Gijón” was held during last weekend, turning Gijón into the centre of attention of Speed Skating. This event marks the first stage of the European Speed Skating Cup and was organised by the Pelayo Skating Club in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Sport of the Principality of Asturias and the Municipal Sports Board of the City Council of Gijón.
This new edition broke the record of participants, with a total of 490 skaters from 16 different countries. Among them, the Spanish Skating Federation was represented by 30 skaters of different ages, competing in the junior, youth and senior categories. ISB Sport ambassadors Patxi Peula and Rafa Heredia (from Desliza Vitoria) also participated in the competition, adding excitement and level to the competition.
The skaters did their best and the Spanish Skating Federation closed the first phase of the European Speed Skating Cup with impressive results, winning a total of 7 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze medals.
