Sergio Mantecón, riding for the Scott Cala Bandida team, ambassador of ISB Sport, has been the undisputed leader of the Far West by SCOTT, winning the two stages that have made him proclaimed champion of the race.
Not even the harsh weather was able to stop Sergio this weekend in Calatayud. After a wet night leaving a very muddy terrain, Saturday’s start had to be delayed for an hour. Something that didn’t seem to affect Sergio because during the whole stage he was out of the other riders leaving us spectacular images like the climb to San Roque with a slope of 30 degrees where the spectators pushed him with their encouragement to climb at a breakneck speed. Finally, he got the victory passing through the finish line 2 minutes behind the second classified.
On Sunday, with less mud, but with a lot of wind, Sergio went all out to win the second stage and with it the overall victory, and so he did. After more than 55 km, a final sprint decided everything and Sergio took the victory by seconds.
On the women’s side, Natalia did not stop fighting to get on the podium, but finally stayed at the gates getting a fourth place in both days.
