In the second stage, which took the athletes from the town of Duoba to Huzhu over a 112.3 km route characterized by three climbs—one first-category climb in the first kilometers of the race and two third-category climbs—the Lombard rider, who had already won on the same course the previous year, managed to stay with the best despite the extremely high pace of the stage. He launched an attack along with seven other riders in the final stages of the race, but was eventually overtaken by Eric Antonio Fagundez in the final sprint.
