ISB SPORT SPONSORS THE FIRST ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE PROJECT FOR THE DAKAR
From January 5 to 17, the Dakar will be held for the first time in Saudi Arabia. The biggest off-road event in the motor world will kick off the new year in the categories of motorcycles, cars, trucks and quads. In a country where the desert is king, 75% of the rally will take place on sand and during the second week of the Dakar the first electric motorcycle, sponsored by ISB Sport and designed so that in the future take part in this rally.
One of the people leading the project is Joan Puig, an experienced rider who has already ridden the Dakar and who has his sights set on putting an electric motorcycle in this exciting race. Puig comments: “The objective of this motorcycle is very simple, to be the first team to run the Dakar on an electric motorcycle to end up constituting a long-lasting electric vehicle with the latest lithium technology, being the element used for the batteries. We always work with the best battery density and the goal is, starting with a high-quality motorcycle built in titanium, to make high-performance vehicles for a public that is dedicated to making great challenges.” “We could have participated in the Dakar 3 years ago with lower densities and a large number of batteries to refuel, we must remember that the protocol to run the Dakar was made by us and is the one currently used by A.S.O. (Dakar organizer). Today, after 3 years, we have achieved a better product since before we had 100 batteries to use and now with 30 we can do it. In other words, in 3 years the project has changed a lot. We are evolving and we hope to find the financing to be the first team to run the Dakar on moto-e.” “In the Dakar we will show the bike to everyone, to the big brands, teams and sponsors who see it. The bike will be there available for 7 days.”
