MANTECÓN REVALIDATES HIS XCM SPANISH CHAMPION TITLE

Sergio has done it again! He has become XCM Spanish Champion for the second year in a row.  Yesterday he revalidated his title in Jerez de los Caballeros after three and a half hours of  racing.

Sunday 21 May will go down in the history of the SCOTT CALA BANDIDA. After a spectacular  route of 83 km, 2,200 metres of positive vertical drop and 3 and a half hours, Mantecón once  again won the Spanish XCM Champion’s jersey.

The best riders on the national scene gathered yesterday in Jerez de los Caballeros to compete  in the Spanish XCM Championship, with the SCOTT CALA BANDIDA team represented by Sergio  Mantecón, Jose María Sánchez, Francesc Guerra and Miquel Faús.

A race that has been brought forward a few months to be held within the Templarios Marathon  and that was very close from the beginning. A large group of riders rode together for a large part  of the race, including Mantecón, Jose María Sánchez and Francesc Guerra, but with five  kilometres to go, a brilliant attack by Sergio won the race and retained the title.

“I am very happy to have been able to retain the  title. For me, and for the team, it was one of the objectives of the year and we have achieved it. This is thanks to the work behind the scenes, we have been working hard all week to reconnoitre the terrain. It wasn’t an easy race, we had a tough week because I had a bad cold, but we came out very motivated and we went for it. Each rider played his cards and luckily I was able to finish it off and win the title” – Sergio Mantecón.

For their part, Jose María Sánchez and Francesc Guerra made it into the top 10. The Spaniard  fought until the end and managed to finish in sixth position. Guerrilla closed the top 10 and  Miquel, in his first championship with the team, managed to finish in 15th position.
